Frequently Asked
What's the difference between a lab-grown and a natural diamond?
Chemically, optically, and physically identical — same crystal structure, same hardness, same brilliance. The difference is timeline and price. Lab-grown stones are produced in a controlled environment in a matter of weeks; natural diamonds form over geologic timescales. Most clients under forty choose lab for the price-to-carat ratio.
Are your diamonds certified?
Every center stone over 0.50 ct ships with a GIA or IGI report. Both labs grade to the same 4Cs scale; IGI is more common for lab-grown, GIA for natural. We hand-pick stones for cut quality regardless of the grade on paper.
Are the diamonds conflict-free?
Yes. Our lab-grown stones are inherently conflict-free — produced in a single facility with a verified supply chain. Our natural diamonds are sourced through MA-DIAM, our wholesale partner, with full provenance documentation traceable to the cutter.
How much do lab-grown diamonds cost vs natural?
For an equivalent grade and size, expect lab-grown to run 60-80% less than natural. The gap is wider at larger carats — a 3-carat lab-grown IGI VS1 F is roughly 20-25% of the cost of the same natural stone.
What's the difference between this page and the search grid?
This page is for browsing — shape, education, what kind of diamond fits the budget. The grid at /collections/lab-diamonds is for shopping — every certified stone in inventory, filtered by carat, color, clarity, cut, and price.
Can I see a diamond before buying it?
Yes. Book a free 30-minute video consultation and a gemologist will show you the actual stone on a loupe-quality camera. Showroom visits in New York available by appointment.
How long until my diamond ships?
Stienhardt in-house inventory ships within 24 hours. Nivoda-sourced lab diamonds ship in 3-5 business days. A custom-cut specialty stone (Portuguese, Moval, antique) takes 2-4 weeks.
Do you offer a lifetime upgrade?
Yes. Trade your diamond in toward a stone of at least 2x the original retail value, any time. The original certificate has to come back with the stone.
